Film Feast Suffolk will be showcasing feature films, documentaries and short films around the subject of food and drink. Just up my street and a fringe event to the wonderful Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival. Local Suffolk cafes and restaurants will be festival partners and recreating the meals and food featured in the films screened. Book now!
My kind of Fringe Event ... ice cream tasting at Hadley's Ice Cream Parlour in Lavenham. A select few (including some very excited children) who were quick enough to spot this free event at the Taste of Sudbury Food and Drink Festival, spent the evening learning about ice cream making, tasting our way through a range of new flavours, some of which had been made specially for us. Jane the owner tried out her new vegan sorbet range on us. Wow! What stunning sorbets made with aquafaba and blended with ripe summer fruits and vibrant tropical flavours. Vegan or not go and try these sensational sorbets for yourselves.
- The gorgeous parlour
- Rhubarb and Ginger and Strawberry and Elderflower sorbets were delicious too!
- Mango and lime sorbet

Alde Valley Spring Festival 22nd April to 21st May 2017
Written by RuthDon't miss this four week celebration of food, farming, landscape and the arts at White House Farm, Great Glemham, near the Suffolk coast. Intermingling arts with food, farming and heritage crafts, farm suppers, festival talks and a pop up shop and a tea room. Festival talks include 'Unearthed' this Friday 12th May by local food writer in residence Tessa Allingham. Tessa, who co-authored Unearthed, is going to use the book and the stories in it to explore some of the things that are important to her, and that she loves writing about - food provenance, and the people who grow, rear, fish, farm, bake, cook and sell the wonderful food we have in Suffolk, as well as some of the wider issues about traceability and honesty in food that this subject invokes. The talk includes a delicious soup, bread and cheese supper afterwards.
If you find yourself in the Cambridge area in the next two weeks check out Eat Cambridge. Lots on! Lots to eat!
We have been going to this for years, but have never tried cold pressed coffee although it was last years hot new thing, until we met a nice young man from Hey Bermondsey Coffee Co who gave us a taste at this years event. We also found the meat mince pies for our Christmas cafe and as usual, enough pens to last the year at sf hq.
A day of talks and food related events for a tenner with food stalls inside and Kerb outside? I had to go. I chose How to make a career out of food to see what I might have missed. Cake Boy and Plenish had stalls in the foyer and the hour long session with the panel of chefs and foodies was useful and encouraging. John Vincent - founder of Leon - gave the best advice to someone who wanted to know how to make the transition from being employed by someone else to running their own food business.
'Get out your phone', he said, so she did.
'Now call your boss and hand in your notice...'
Today is the first day of Ramadan and this year it falls on some of the longest days of the year. Over a billion Muslims around the world will begin fasting from dawn till dusk, refraining from eating and drinking, as a way to strengthen their faith. In the UK the days could be as long as 16 hours - a challenge that lasts for 30 days until July 17th.
PettaFiesta will be holding another weekend of music, film and fun for all ages on the weekend of 11th and 12th July. It's a ticket only event so visit the PettaFiesta website to book. Saturday night features a communal supper cooked on the campfire by us - the suffolkfoodie team - an outdoor screening of Carousel, a not-too-horror movie, a late night cheesy disco and karaoke - keeping you entertained well into the night. Bring a tent and wake up in the morning to the glorious dawn chorus and a Sunday spent strolling the pretty garden. The Little House of Cooking will be making brunch and afternoon tea for sale on Sunday.

Our Bury St Edmunds has come up with a brilliant virtual food festival which is running throughout the town in February. Great if you are a social media addict like me. Look out for the hashtag #ffff on Twitter to see who has a special festival offer or promotion running. First up for me is Pea Porridge, our SuffolkFoodie Dish of the Day for February.
Pouring with rain all day but the ackee and saltfish, curry goat and jerk chicken keeps on coming at Notting Hill Carnival.
...we have lost 48 feta and pepperdew muffins...! Did we sell them by mistake thinking they were cornmeal (but they had great big pieces of feta sticking out...hard to miss) Or are they still in Granny's freezer? We have no idea where they went. If you think you saw them - or even ate one, let us know. Unless of course you took the whole lot (we did have one teenager breaking into camp-kitchen looking for a 3am cheese scone) in which case - we hope you liked them.
We really need to post the recipe up for these because it's soooooo good, easy, cheap and very impressive. Here are some we are making for PettaFiesta. We put a shake of smoked paprika on the bottom and some grated cheese, then changed our minds and on the next bake put it on the top. Great with soup instead of bread - we will be serving them with the chili - and maybe for breakfast too.
